Isaiah 15

1. This is a prophecy about Mo’av: 1 The night ‘Ar is sacked, Mo’av is ruined. 1 The night Kir is sacked, Mo’av is ruined.

2. He went up to the temple, 2 to Dibon and to the high places, to weep. 2 On N’vo and Meidva Mo’av is howling, 2 every head shaved bald, every beard cut off.

3. In the streets they wear sackcloth; 3 on their roofs and in their squares, 3 everyone howls and weeps profusely.

4. Heshbon and El‘aleh cry out, 4 they are heard as far as Yachatz. 4 Mo’av’s best troops cry aloud, 4 as their courage faints away.

5. My heart cries out for Mo’av! 5 Its fugitives flee to Tzo‘ar, 5 a calf three years old. 5 They ascend the slope of Luchit, 5 weeping as they go; 5 on their way to Horonayim, 5 they utter heartrending cries.

6. The waters of Nimrim are desolate, 6 the grass is dried up, the new growth fails, 6 nothing green is left.

7. Therefore they carry away their wealth, 7 everything they have put aside, 7 across the Vadi of the Willows.

8. For the cry has circulated 8 throughout Mo’av’s territory — 8 its howling has reached Eglayim, 8 its howling has reached Be’er-Elim.

9. For the waters of Dimon are full of blood, 9 yet I have worse in store for Dimon — 9 a lion for those who escape from Mo’av 9 and for those who remain in its land.
