Psalm 27

1. (0) By David: 1 (1) Adonai is my light and salvation; 1 whom do I need to fear? 1 Adonai is the stronghold of my life; 1 of whom should I be afraid?

2. When evildoers assailed me 2 to devour my flesh, 2 my adversaries and foes, 2 they stumbled and fell.

3. If an army encamps against me, 3 my heart will not fear; 3 if war breaks out against me, 3 even then I will keep trusting.

4. Just one thing have I asked of Adonai; 4 only this will I seek: 4 to live in the house of Adonai 4 all the days of my life, 4 to see the beauty of Adonai 4 and visit in his temple.

5. For he will conceal me in his shelter 5 on the day of trouble, 5 he will hide me in the folds of his tent, 5 he will set me high on a rock.

6. Then my head will be lifted up 6 above my surrounding foes, 6 and I will offer in his tent 6 sacrifices with shouts of joy; 6 I will sing, sing praises to Adonai.

7. Listen, Adonai, to my voice when I cry; 7 show favor to me; and answer me.

8. “My heart said of you, ‘Seek my face.’” 8 Your face, Adonai, I will seek.

9. Do not hide your face from me, 9 don’t turn your servant away in anger. 9 You are my help; don’t abandon me; 9 don’t leave me, God my savior.

10. Even though my father and mother have left me, 10 Adonai will care for me.

11. Teach me your way, Adonai; 11 lead me on a level path 11 because of my enemies —

12. don’t give me up to the whims of my foes; 12 for false witnesses have risen against me, 12 also those who are breathing violence.

13. If I hadn’t believed that I would see 13 Adonai’s goodness in the land of the living, . . .

14. Put your hope in Adonai, be strong, 14 and let your heart take courage! 14 Yes, put your hope in Adonai!
