Psalm 142

You Are My Refuge

1. A Maskil[a] of David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer. 1 With my voice I cry out to the Lord; 1 with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord.

2. I pour out my complaint before him; 2 I tell my trouble before him.

3. When my spirit faints within me, 3 you know my way! 3 In the path where I walk 3 they have hidden a trap for me.

4. Look to the right and see: 4 there is none who takes notice of me; 4 no refuge remains to me; 4 no one cares for my soul.

5. I cry to you, O Lord; 5 I say, “You are my refuge, 5 my portion in the land of the living.”

6. Attend to my cry, 6 for I am brought very low! 6 Deliver me from my persecutors, 6 for they are too strong for me!

7. Bring me out of prison, 7 that I may give thanks to your name! 7 The righteous will surround me, 7 for you will deal bountifully with me.
