Psalm 53

Psalm 53

1. For the choir director: A meditation; a psalm[a] of David. 1 1 Only fools say in their hearts, 1 “There is no God.” 1 They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; 1 not one of them does good!

2. God looks down from heaven 2 on the entire human race; 2 he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, 2 if anyone seeks God.

3. But no, all have turned away; 3 all have become corrupt.[b] 3 No one does good, 3 not a single one!

4. Will those who do evil never learn? 4 They eat up my people like bread 4 and wouldn’t think of praying to God.

5. Terror will grip them, 5 terror like they have never known before. 5 God will scatter the bones of your enemies. 5 You will put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

6. Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? 6 When God restores his people, 6 Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.
